Leslie Sealey was born in Fort Collins, Colorado. Her family moved to Poolesville, Maryland, where her love of horses helped her to form a deep connection with animals and the land. “My favorite memories are those of riding my horse through the woods and fields of rural Maryland. The peaceful feeling of being one with nature is what I try to evoke in my paintings.”
A westerner at heart, she attended the University of Arizona where she received a BFA in studio art. Her concentration at that time was in photography, and she moved to Texas in 1991 to pursue a career in medical photography. At the same time, she continued her fine-art studies and switched to painting full-time in 1997. Painting provided a direct, emotional connection that she had been searching for with photography.
“My work focuses on the landscape as a conduit for spiritual connection. After gathering reference materials in the form of plein air studies, sketches and photos, I combine them and strengthen the message with my imagination. My goal is to provide a meditative experience for the viewer.”
Leslie’s work has been shown in galleries across the country, including the National Arts Club in NYC. Her artwork has been featured multiple times in both American Art Collector and Southwest Art Magazine. She is an associate member of American Women Artists.
