Tara Will Works

Tara Will

Hampstead, MD

Growing up watching the creative hands of my grandmother, I have always been fascinated with working with my hands. There is nothing more intuitive than having pastels in hand. There is no extension of a brush between my hand and the paper; and there is an immediacy that I thrive on.  I create work that focuses on capturing the essence of the subject. I enjoy a wide range of subjects, but mostly focus on the landscape, for my love of being outside. I was told by a mentor once, that “the act of painting is a transfer of energy”.  The byproduct is artwork that enters into an age old conversation between viewer and artist; a conversation I am honored to have with you.

I don’t seek to disguise reality with a saccharin, romantic veil of perception. I am attracted to extreme light and shadow for a reason. They inherently make the other exist; accentuating and informing. As an artist and viewer, I love seeing the process and human hand of the artist. There is something refreshing about an artist putting down marks in a direct, unapologetic way.

I believe in being authentic in my work. Once one forgives themselves for the things they see as flaws, they can take the parts of themselves that they love and express that energy to the viewer.

It is this conversation; this exchange of energy that I am excited to share with you.
