Katelyn Del Vecchio
I am a painter (and student of light) of the high desert landscapes of Texas, New Mexico and Colorado. I work primarily in oil, using thin layers of paint and glazes on sienna-stained canvas to create depth and luminosity. The texture in my work may appear subtle in photographs, but I use directional brush strokes to deliver the impression of shape and form. I rely on light impasto and these directional brush strokes to create an impactful viewing experience that invites the admirer to look closer. My paintings depict the life that flourishes within the harsh and brilliant environment of high desert climates. My paintings are often landscapes, but through my choice of subject and context, I hope to invite the viewer to consider the beauty and complexity of what I see as a "land of opposites" which have learned to coexist. Delicacy and hardiness. Sun and Moon. Light and shadow. Drought and rain. With every piece I hope to create a portrait of balance in a ferocious and hypnotizing place.

Katelyn Del Vecchio
B., 1994. Katelyn Betsill Del Vecchio is an American oil painter.
Primarily a self taught painter, Katelyn began studying oils following the move to a rural town in the wild and vast Chihuahuan desert, where the desert light and shadow ignited curiosity and awe. Mainly a western figurative & landscape painter, Betsill believes in painting what is familiar to her, featuring western landscapes and figures that reflect her own experiences working in, and with, the land. Her education and background as a Biologist has also inspired the incorporation of native flora and fauna to create narrative portraits of landscapes and gives a subtle nod to the ecosystem it facilitates.
What started as a pursuit to recreate landscape in a literal “as is” depiction has morphed into a more relaxed, explorative play with shape, color and contrast in her finished studio paintings.
She currently lives in Far West Texas with her husband, Scott, and young children Josephine and Noe (ages 3 years, 5 months).
