Ouida Touchon
My intention is to create artwork that is strong enough to pull the viewer into it… to try it on, like stepping through an aperture. The abundant mark making with chisel and brayer is uncounted. The piece needs every quixotic chisel mark, every color of ink, to become itself. The lines of ‘particular’ text, written in cursive, become the portal to an imagined character telling her own story to the viewer. These lines of text may come from songs, or books, or my own ironic sense of humor. Each handprint is run through my Takach press over and over again as the block is reduced. I work from light colored ink to the final passes which are the darkest in value. The editions are small and printed on archival Japanese paper in small runs of no more than 10.

Ouida Touchón is a visual artist from New Mexico, who now resides on the western slope of the Rockies. She owns a charming 1910 bungalow with a carriage house in the back where she spends most of her waking moments at the easel or the press.
She holds a BFA in painting from the Kansas City Art Institute, and Master of Art from the University of Missouri at Kansas City in studio arts. In addition, she has studied with mentors and distinguished printmakers and painters in Italy, Mexico, and the United States.
Her work is exhibited at various galleries and museums including Mixx Collections in Telluride, Colorado/ Coors Western Art Exhibition 2023, 24, 25, 26, Denver/ Arvada Colorado Center for the Arts/ Red Brick Center for the Arts, Aspen/ and the Grand Mesa Arts Center, Cedaredge. Also the El Paso Museum of Art, the Federal Building in Las Cruces New Mexico, and the Las Cruces Museum of Art.
