Rick Kennington
Rick Kennington Artist Statement My work is rooted in a connection to the West—its people, horses, landscapes, and the quiet moments that often tell the strongest stories. Through my paintings, I hope to evoke a sense of place and time, allowing the viewer to feel a connection to the moment rather than simply observe it. Growing up, I spent summers helping my grandfather on his ranch in Wyoming. Those experiences gave me an appreciation for horses, ranch life, and the vast Western landscape that has stayed with me throughout my life and continues to influence what I paint today. As a teenager, I was given a piece of advice that has remained with me: Take time to view the world around you, and you will be amazed at the beauty that exists in everyday life. That idea continues to guide the way I approach painting. I am constantly studying the outdoors—the changing light, atmosphere, color, movement, and the subtle moments that can easily be overlooked. Through rich color, texture, expressive brushwork, and areas of careful detail, I strive to create paintings that feel both immediate and timeless. Ultimately, I want my work to tell a story and give the viewer an opportunity to experience some of the beauty, emotion, and connection I find in the Western landscape and way of life.

Rick Kennington – Artist Bio
Rick Kennington was born and raised in Utah, spending much of his youth outdoors and on his grandfather’s ranch in Wyoming. Surrounded by wide-open landscapes and the rhythms of ranch life, Rick developed a deep love for horses and the Western way of life—both of which remain central themes in his artwork.
Rick’s paintings are inspired by the land he knows and loves, as well as his deep ranching roots. His style ranges from loose, impressionistic brushwork rich in color, to pieces that showcase fine detail and realism. This variety allows him to capture both the emotional atmosphere and the subtle truths of the Western experience.
His journey as an artist began with an art scholarship, which led him to study Fine Art at the University of Utah. It was there he gained a broader appreciation for all forms of art. Over the years, Rick has also drawn inspiration from established Western artists, attending numerous workshops to refine his skills and techniques.
Through dedicated practice and countless hours at the easel, Rick continues to experiment and grow as an oil painter. His work is currently represented in several fine art galleries across Montana and Wyoming.
Rick’s goal is to create artwork that resonates with people—stirring memories, emotions, and a sense of connection to place and heritage.
He currently lives in Utah with his wife and their four sons.
