When I was growing up, “a busy as a beaver” was a typical cliche I often heard, so when the commission to sculpt a beaver came up, I thought of it. I do tend to favor poses for my wildlife sculpture to be in repose..as if the viewer has come across a relaxing wild animal in its own habitat. But with the beaver, I can hardly imagine coming across one napping or even resting. So taking a break to eat seemed to fit the beaver character best.
Over one hundred volunteers staff the Coors Art Gallery during the Stock Show and special events such as the Red Carpet Reception. Volunteers come from across the front range, drawn by their love for the art show as well as their dedication to raising funds for the National Western Scholarship Trust, to which the Coors Western Art Exhibit & Sale is the largest contributor.
