After 48 years of illustration and commercial art success, Ezra Tucker embarked on a fine art career, determined to create his own style of artistic beauty in both the portrayal of wildlife and historical personalities and events surrounding the settling of the American Western frontier. This lifetime journey has proved fulfilling and rewarding to his artistic vision and ambitions. Tucker is widely admired for his wildlife and historical art, which is not only reminiscent of the descriptive and narrative art produced by such naturalists as Charles R. Knight and John James Audubon but also reflective of many of the illustrators of the Golden Age of Illustration. The art of such classical wildlife artists as Bob Khun, Carl Rungius, Edwin Landseer, Arthur Wardle, and Antoine Bayre has also influenced Tucker’s style. His depictions, like theirs, pull viewers into the artwork from both curiosity and their desire to be informed. He achieves this with dynamic compositions, unexpected color, lighting, and scale. Tucker’s art gives dignity and presence to each subject that he depicts. The Black experience in the history of the American West has been omitted from the historical record and is visibly absent from many of our nation’s museum collections. Tucker’s historical paintings pictorially tell the stories of people of African descent: cowboys, bronco busters, Pony Express riders, Buffalo Soldiers, Indian scouts, and other Americans who shaped the North American frontier.

Tucker’s original art is included in the permanent collections of Adolf Coors Brewing and Manufacturing Company, Anheuser-Busch, Inc., the Booth Western Art Museum, the Briscoe Western Art Museum, the Chisholm Trail Heritage Museum, the James Museum of Western & Wildlife Art, the Pentagon/United States Air Force Art Program, and many private and Fortune 500 corporate collections. Among his many awards, the most recent include the Western Art & Architecture Award at the 2024 Coors Western Art Exhibit & Sale, the Award of Excellence at the Autry Museum’s 2023 Masters of the American West, the Briscoe Museum Purchase Award at the 2021 Night of Artists, and the Spirit of the Buffalo Bill Art Show & Sale Award at the 2020 Buffalo Bill Art Show & Sale. The Art of Ezra Tucker, containing 40 of Tucker’s original works of art, is currently on tour through ten of North America’s major art and natural history museums through Fall 2026.
