Born into the rich cultural tapestry of the American Southwest, Native New Mexican artist Sean Michael Chavez (S.M. Chavez) paints a vision that bridges tradition and innovation. He weaves together the old and the new, paying homage to historic masters such as the Taos Society of Artists while also embracing the evolving future of Western art. His refined sense of color and distinctive design aesthetic firmly position his work among the most compelling voices in contemporary Western painting. Represented by Santa Fe’s Acosta Strong Fine Art, Chavez continues to sell out solo exhibitions and participates in major museum shows nationwide. His venues include the Albuquerque Museum of Art, the Eiteljorg Museum, the Couse-Sharp Historic Site, the Briscoe Western Art Museum, the Coors Western Art Exhibit & Sale, and the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum, as a Prix de West artist. Chavez’s work is represented in numerous distinguished private collections as well as in the permanent holdings of the Chisholm Trail Museum (TX), the Booth Western Art Museum (GA), and the Eiteljorg Museum of Western Art (IN), where in 2025 it was selected by the Western Society for the museum’s permanent collection housing the works of Remington, Russell, O’Keeffe and Dixon and more. His paintings have been featured in national and regional publications including Western Art Collector (cover image, August 2024), Southwest Art, Wild West Magazine, New Mexico Magazine, Santa Fe Magazine, Western Art & Architecture, and Fine Art Connoisseur. S.M. Chavez has been a Coors Western Art Show artist since 2020.
